Our sourcing – our responsibility
As the person responsible for purchasing at BKI, my work is about
昀椀nding the right balance: Between a fair price
and high quality. Between caring for people and
the environment, and ensuring a stable supply.
It’s not always straightforward. Coffee is often
grown in countries where social and environmental challenges are part of everyday life. At
the same time, the market is marked by signif-
icant price fluctuations – most often upward.
And we know that the future may bring a situation where there simply aren’t enough farmers
to meet global demand.
That is precisely why BKI must be a partner
farmers want to work with – also in the long
term. It requires integrity, stable relationships and a commitment to ensuring that
coffee farming remains attractive for the
next generations.
Today, we stand on a strong foundation: All
our suppliers sign BKI’s Code of Conduct, which
sets clear expectations for working conditions,
the environment and ethics. And we continue to
build on many years of trust with partners we
know well. That gives both security and quality.
But we want to go further. Our next step is an
ethical sourcing strategy that will make our procurement even more focused. A strategy that
not only protects, but actively creates positive
change. This means that going forward, we will
use our purchasing power to promote better
working conditions, support more responsible
farming methods and ensure that we can continue to supply high-quality coffee to our customers.
Every year, we buy around 12,000 tons of
green coffeebeans. That volume comes with
responsibility. We know the road ahead won’t
always be easy, but we are committed to taking that responsibility – because that’s what
it takes to secure the coffee of the future.
