CO2 昀椀gures you
can rely on
CO2 calculations can be complex. What counts
– and what is left out?
There are many different methods and
approaches. Some do not account for past
deforestation, even though it has a clear climate
impact. Others include, for example, shade trees
that absorb CO2 on the farm. And some methods
distribute the company’s total emissions across
all products, which can create the impression
of coffee with an almost invisible – or in some
cases even negative – climate footprint. It sounds
almost too good to be true.
At BKI, we calculate CO2 emissions at product
level, based on Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs)
that follow the journey of each bean – from the
farm to the final coffee bag.
The calculations follow the international ISO 14044
standards, ensuring a transparent and comparable
methodology. And most importantly, our data is
verified by independent experts. This means you
can trust that the figures are grounded in solid
science – not on shortcuts or marketing spin.
Our LCAs give us a clear understanding of where
meaningful CO2 reductions can be made. This is
a vital step in reducing the climate footprint of
each product and across our entire value chain.
